NATURE AND ENVIRONMENT
At SAGE nature and caring for the environment is a central focus. Rather than buildings and concrete, SAGE is housed in a nature setting. Nature provides a deep healing environment which supports both physical and emotional health. There is a growing body of evidence linking the lack of nature in children’s lives and the rise in obesity, attention disorders and depression. Humans are innately connected to the earth in the same way other animals are, yet we have lost that deep connection. Most people have experienced the power of nature to heal and transform. Going for a hike, a walk, sitting by the sea or pulling into a viewpoint on a mountain can provide perspective, calm, centering and opens the heart.
Our children are experiencing the stress effects of over-scheduled lives, too much electronic input via cell phones, computers, tv, ipads, electronic games and no play time, down time, quiet time or time in nature. SAGE reconnects children to nature and rekindles their natural love of nature as part of the learning process and day to day life.
– Spending time in nature playing, exploring and moving freely
– Playing with nature elements such as water, sand, pebbles, sticks
– Gardening and watching plants grow
– Learning nature skills such as wild food foraging, animal tracking, fire making and water finding,
– being comfortable with nature and experience it as a place to replenish energies and find adventure and joy of life
